Kijabe

I enjoyed traveling to Kijabe (about an hour outside Nairobi) this weekend. Kijabe is the largest missionary compound in the world with Kijabe Hospital and Bethany Kids, Rift Valley Academy, CURE International, and Moffat Bible College all located in the same place and all hosting missionaries. Several other Post Residents with Samaritan's Purse work at Kijabe Hospital including my friends from Birmingham the Shirleys who were kind to host me. It was very interesting to see another mission hospital and note the similarities and differences with Tenwek. I also have had several missionary kid friends over the years who attended RVA, so I enjoyed seeing the school and attending chapel there this morning. I was encouraged talking with Rhett and Megan and Malin Friess about some of our shared struggles and joys as new medical missionaries in Kenya. And it was also fun watching the U.S. vs Ghana World Cup game (even though the U.S. lost) with some other missionary families.

Happy Father's Day!

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the
Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." Deut 6:4-9

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." 3 John 4

I am so grateful for a godly father who has truly lived out the above verses as he (and my mom) prayerfully raised three girls and now as he grandfathers little Samuel (and Baby Lutz #2!).

Baby Center

I recently had the privilege to host some of the babies and workers from
the AGC Baby Center in Nakuru. The Baby Center cares for orphans under the age of 4 and facilitates adoptions with Kenyan families. Several of the babies have medical conditions like congenital heart disease and these were brought to Tenwek for review recently. I loved having such adorable visitors in my home! For more information on the Baby Center, see http://www.agcbabycenter.org/.
